Modern graphite shafts, in particular, are technological masterpieces, but they have one weakness: wear and tear at the point where the shaft touches the golf bag. The constant friction against the golf bag&#8217;s dividers causes irreparable damage to the shaft and can even cause the club to break.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-bf9ccdf2b442ed70f57b2965961733dc wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--70)\">With the ShaftSaverPro, a logical and sustainable solution has been found in the form of a 1.5 mm thick sacrificial layer that absorbs the damage. However, after extensive correspondence with the R&amp;A (the keepers of the Rules of Golf) at St Andrews, we have encountered a bureaucratic wall.<\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ast-global-color-3-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2f6dde12d909b5ea20c0a535e795c7dc\">The core of the problem: The 12-inch rule<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e4cb6b652af97b981b4046bfdf85055c wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">The R&amp;A is clear. A shaft must be &#8220;smooth.&#8221; Anything attached to a shaft within 12 inches (approx. 30 cm) of the clubhead officially makes the club non-conforming. It does not matter to the regulators that the ShaftSaverPro:   <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7677dfeae9f90baaf0a4f0a993609a93\">Does not noticeably affect ball flight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d10d4c18418f5c16a9a8a2463127d031\">Provides no assistance with alignment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-693fecacdff35b77f70e96aebab11934\">Is purely intended to prevent damage to expensive equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ast-global-color-3-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-38e374dc6ddf1b63394789f5e6e5e718\">Tape is allowed, durability is not<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-74b14d2d48427a5903984f6e341191eb wp-block-paragraph\">A remarkable paradox emerged during the communication. According to the technical specifications, applying tape to the shaft is permitted for protection. Why? Because tape follows the shape of the shaft and has been accepted for decades. In doing so, they acknowledge the wear and tear problem.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9cf1f13134bcb37b119e05db42a4b8fc wp-block-paragraph\">However, as soon as a solution becomes more durable, effective, or thicker than a simple piece of tape, it is classified as an &#8220;External Attachment.&#8221; According to the letter of the law, this must be removed before making a stroke. The choice was made to adhere the ShaftSaverPro to the shaft because the extra action of removing an item is disruptive to the golfing process.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-bd726a8e0e5aca610f5c5d2c3745688d wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ast-global-color-3-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-700d4bbb42435cf77b13ba0eb0b2d533\">Who actually checks this?<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-fba6108ebc92f3ff35e178b4de9b448d wp-block-paragraph\">While the rules are strict, this raises questions in practice. The ShaftSaverPro has no noticeable influence on your game or ball flight. One might wonder who, during a match, would check for a protective element that serves purely to preserve your equipment. We play golf for enjoyment while maintaining our equipment.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9b1c09b35b757c6be60fa54429e1593a wp-block-paragraph\">In the meantime, there are golfers who choose to play matches with the ShaftSaverPro on their clubs. They prioritize the preservation of their valuable shafts over a theoretical rule. Please note: this is always at your own risk. If a strict stickler for the rules makes an issue of it, the official rules are not on your side and you could be disqualified.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-aa1c6a1c0baa88dabd9783aa6e7b5d8b wp-block-paragraph\">If you have the most important match of the year and a chance to win the club championships, you can easily remove the ShaftSaverPro within 1 minute. Reinstalling it takes about 2 minutes, but you will need new double-sided tape, which can be ordered in the webshop. <\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ast-global-color-3-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3bb52465c1538bc85fd6275eb91ddcda\">Conclusion<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9591a461f4a27a54d4928413ed99e29e wp-block-paragraph\">The regulators indicate that they will not adjust the rules because &#8220;shaft protection&#8221; is allegedly not a generally recognized problem. That is an interesting position in an era where golfers spend more than ever on fragile, high-end equipment. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-42e0c724542aef14ec68a799422b23e0 wp-block-paragraph\">We continue to fight for a more logical policy.
