You can, but in practice, it is somewhat inconvenient. It means that after every shot, you have to put that fabric sock back over the club and push it between the shaft and the bag. ShaftSaverPro solves this permanently without requiring any extra actions.

What should I do if my graphite golf shafts already have scratches from the bag rim?

If there are already scratches or noticeable damage on the shaft, the protective clear coat has been compromised. To prevent constant friction from damaging the graphite (carbon) even deeper and permanently weakening the club, you must stop the friction immediately. You can apply ShaftSaverPro directly over the existing damage using the double-sided tape to stop further wear and seal the area.

Doesn’t a golf bag with a soft rim (divider) help prevent damage to graphite shafts?

No, unfortunately, it doesn’t help. Because the clubhead always hangs to one side, gravity causes the shaft to rest continuously on the exact same point against the rim of the bag. While walking the course or riding a trolley, the shaft constantly rubs against this edge. This gradual friction slowly but surely wears down the clear coat, no matter how soft the bag’s rim is.
