Protecting valuable graphite shafts
Golfers often invest thousands of pounds in their equipment. Modern graphite shafts offer excellent performance, but repeated contact with the dividers or edge of a golf bag can gradually damage the shaft’s surface. Over time, this wear may weaken the shaft and can eventually contribute to breakage.
ShaftSaverPro was developed to protect this vulnerable contact area. Its durable protective layer absorbs the friction that would otherwise affect the shaft itself.
Protective tape and external attachments
The Equipment Rules permit certain types of tape when applied to protect a shaft and when the tape follows the original shape of the shaft. ShaftSaverPro provides a thicker and more durable form of protection and is therefore classified differently under the current rules.
Use during competitions
ShaftSaverPro is currently non-conforming for official competitions and qualifying rounds when it remains attached to the shaft during a stroke. Leaving it attached during official competitions or qualifying rounds is at your own risk.
ShaftSaverPro can be removed in approximately one minute. Reinstallation takes approximately two minutes and requires new double-sided tape, which is available from the ShaftSaverPro webshop.
Continuing the discussion
The R&A has indicated that shaft protection is not currently regarded as a generally recognised issue requiring an amendment to the Equipment Rules.
